What you share, and what you keep.

What the app knows

Which city you're in, and when that changes. Your phone knows where it is; the app turns that into a city name and works from the city. It keeps that as a list of cities and times, for as long as your account exists.

The permission runs in the background because you are rarely holding your phone at the moment you arrive. Here is what happens each time it wakes.

What other people see

The city you're in, and only the people who confirmed you. Adding someone is mutual: they agree before anything flows either way.

City level is where sharing starts, and today it is all the app shares. You set the match radius, which decides how close counts as the same place; where you and a friend have set different radii, the tighter one applies. Anything closer than the city would be yours to switch on, and we will ask you first.

Going quiet

Pause sharing and your location stops being reported at all, while your account stays exactly as it is. Nobody is told you paused, and the app never shows the difference between a paused friend and one who simply isn't nearby.

Per friend, you can mute notifications about them, or remove the connection. Revoking location permission in your phone's settings stops everything, and the app will tell you plainly what has stopped working.

Groups

If your association or employer sets up a group, they tell us who is eligible, and joining is your decision. What they get back is numbers, not names. Leave the group and the people you added stay with you.

Leaving

Delete your account from Settings, or write to info@crossways.app and we'll do it. Your list, your history, and your places go with it. Instructions are on the support page if you no longer have the app installed.

That removes it from the live database straight away. The privacy policy explains how long copies survive in our database provider's backups, and what happens to the security log.
