Your account
Delete your Crossways account
Delete it yourself, in the app or on the web. If you no longer have your phone number, email us.
In the app
Open Crossways and go to Settings.
Find Delete account and tap it.
Type delete to confirm, then tap Delete my account. Your account is removed straight away.
On the web
If you no longer have the app, you can delete your account here. Enter the phone number on the account, enter the code we text you, then type delete to confirm. It deletes your account exactly as the app does.
If you no longer have that phone number
Email info@crossways.app with the subject “Delete my Crossways account”. We cannot delete an account on an emailed request alone, because we cannot confirm whose account it is. We will write back and talk through what we can do.
What is deleted
Your account and everything attached to it are deleted outright, not marked as deleted:
- Your phone number and your sign-in identity
- Your friends list and any pending requests
- The record of cities you have been in
- Your history of crossings
- Your places and settings
This happens immediately, and in any event within 24 hours.
Deleting in the app also clears what the app keeps on your phone, such as your home places. If you delete on the web, uninstalling the app removes that.
What is kept, and for how long
Database backups: up to 30 days
Our database provider keeps encrypted backups for up to 30 days. Your data leaves those backups as they expire. We do not use backups to bring deleted accounts back.
Security log: kept, with your identity removed
Entries in the security log stay, but your identity in them is replaced with a random value that points back to nobody, and anything identifying is cleared.
Removing less than everything
You can keep your account and still remove or mute a friend, pause sharing, or turn off location permission in your phone's settings.
The privacy policy covers retention and deletion in full.
